  • Abstract : This research topic gathers the design, characterization and use of fibre Bragg gratings for sensing purposes, which includes the implementation of a dedicated interrogation technique according to the application as well as the association of gratings with sensitive materials.
  • Description : - Use of uniform Bragg gratings written in polarization maintaining fibre for simultaneous strain and temperature measurements; - Use of uniform Bragg gratings embedded into composite materials for temperature and strain measurements; - Use of tilted fibre Bragg gratings for surrounding refractive index measurements; - Use of gold-coated tilted fibre Bragg gratings to generate surface plasmon resonances for highly sensitive refractometry; - Association of gratings with sensitive materials for physical and chemical sensing purposes. Some examples: hydrogen leak detection with gratings coated by a catalytic sensitive layer made of tungsten oxide doped with platinum, infrared measurement with gratings covered by copper oxide, humidity sensing with gratings surrounded by porous polyimide, …
