  • Abstract : This research activity concerns the distributed measurement of fibre properties, including those related to polarization and nonlinear effects.
  • Description : Distributed measurements refer to spatially-resolved characterization of fibre properties. This means that the measurement apparatus is capable to measure a given parameter anywhere along the whole fibre length.
  • Applications : Experimental setups have been developed for - Distributed measurements of the birefringence along an optical fibre; - PMD (Polarization Mode Dispersion) mapping along an optical link; - Spatially-resolved measurement of the accumulated Raman gain along an optical fibre; - Distributed measurement of the modulation instability phenomenon; - Conventional distributed measurements of losses (OTDR: Optical time Domain Reflectometry); mode field diameter and waveguide dispersion are also possible.
