23/11/2015Min CEN, PhD student in the Electromagnetism and Telecommunication department, has got the "ACP 2015 Best Student Paper" award for her paper entitled "A full monitoring scheme for long-reach TWDM PONs" presented at the international conference "Asia Communications and Photonics Conference" (ACP), November 19 to 23, Hong-Kong, China.
May 2015Christophe Caucheteur is the winner of the 2015 Alumni Award in the applied sciences. The award will be handed on the 5th of June, during the BAEF lunch organized at the University Foundation, Rue d'Egmont 11 in Brussels.

October 2012The project ARC - PREDICTION has started on October 1st, 2012. PREDICTION, PRotein dEtection for in vivo DIagnosis using CaTheterIc Optical fibre bioseNsors, is a 5 year fundamental research programme that gathers challenging domains such as design and manufacturing of special refractive-index gratings, biofunctionalization, design of specific adaptive packaging, integration of biosensors into a catheter and in vivo experimentations.
July 2011The project NOSens has been funded by Wallonia in the frame of the call Greenomat. NOSens is a 2 year research project that focuses on the detection and measurement of NO2 by means of quasi-distributed optical fiber grating sensors. The consortium gathers the skills of four complementary teams: Material Science Department of Umons (Prof. Marjorie Olivier), the Materia Nova research center, the ICTEAM of UCL (Prof. Jean-Pierre Raskin) and the Electromagnetism and Telecommunication Department of Umons.
June 2011Christophe Caucheteur (F.R.S.-FNRS postodoctoral researcher) has been awarded a European Research Council Starting Grant for a 5 year research project called PROSPER and dedicated to the realization of protein biosensors based on the use of radiative refractive-index optical fiber gratings.
April 2011Together with the Electrical Power Department, we have signed a convention with ORES (www.ores.net) to create a ‘ORES Chair’ inside the Faculty of Applied Sciences (FPMs) of UMONS (2011-2014). The aim is to stimulate the research in the field of communications in the frame of smart grids, on the one hand, by the research of PhD students and, on the other hand, by inviting outstanding Professors in the Chair and organizing high level conferences.
